Leg & Pelvis Bones

The pelvic girdle attaches the leg to the axial skeleton through the hip bone, which fuses from the ilium, ischium, and pubis. From hip to ankle: the femur is the thigh bone and the longest bone in the body, the patella is the kneecap that rides over the knee joint, and the lower leg carries two bones side by side. The tibia is the larger, weight-bearing shin bone on the medial side, while the fibula is the slender bone on the lateral side.
